Where to View the Best Sunsets in Istanbul?

Istanbul offers numerous locations to watch the sun setting over the city’s skyline. Seriously, there are quite literally thousands of vantage points to catch awesome sunsets in the city.

Here are some of our favorite spots to catch the stunning colorful views:

From Galata Tower

This is a popular spot for watching the sunset. This wonderfully atmospheric tower offers a birds-eye 360-degree view of Istanbul, making it the perfect location to enjoy the sun setting over the city’s iconic landmarks.

On or Along the Bosphorus

The straits are a fabulous place to watch the sunset. Perhaps consider taking a relaxing late afternoon boat cruise where you can see the sun setting behind skyline of the European part of the city.

Or maybe one of the many public spaces along Kennedy Cad in Sultanahmet would suit you better where the view will be sure to highlight the contrast between the modern and traditional architecture of the city.

From Uskudar District

This neighborhood on the Asian side of Istanbul offers a unique sunset experience.

From the pier, you can watch the sun setting behind the city’s silhouette, creating a magical and romantic atmosphere.

Some say this is where you’ll get the best sunset views in the city that take in the iconic mosques of Istanbul.

There are also some higher vantage points within the district which also offer amazing sunset views.

From Kadikoy District

Kadikoy is a trendy neighborhood also on the Asian side of Istanbul, famous for its vibrant food scene and buzzing nightlife.

Head to Moda Park or Fenerbahçe Park where you can experience not only a city sunset view but also enjoy a stunning sunset over the Marmara Sea.

Best Rooftop Sunset Spots in Istanbul

If you’re looking for the ultimate sunset experience, then head to one of the many rooftop bars in Istanbul.

Much like vantage points there are so many places that offer rooftops in Istanbul that it would be impossible for us to try and rate them all.

Here is a small selection of some of the best rooftop bars where you can enjoy a chilled glass of wine and witness a Turkish Sunset in all its glory – in our opinion of course.

Leb-i Derya

This rooftop bar is located on the 8th floor of a building in Galata. It offers a stunning view of the Bosphorus, the Golden Horn, and the Old City.

Mikla

This rooftop bar, located on the top floor of the Marmara Pera hotel, offers a panoramic view of the city.

You can see the sunset over the Golden Horn, while enjoying delicious cocktails and scrumptious Turkish cuisine.

Adamar Hotel

Much less well known but breathtaking views from the rooftop with prices cheaper than you would expect.

This is an incredible location that’s walking distance to almost all the historical places you want to see in Sultanahmet.

Best Restaurants To Watch The Sunset In Istanbul

If you’re a foodie and love a great sunset view, then Istanbul has got you covered as there are no shortage of rooftop restaurants and terraces in Istanbul to choose from.

Here are some of the best restaurants that we’ve been to before, to enjoy a delicious meal while watching the sunset.

MAKE SURE you check opening and operating hours before heading to any of these venues.

Kalpazankaya: Beach Experience Sunset

This restaurant is actually located on an island and is on a beach. Rarely visited by tourists as most cannot figure out how to get here, this place is awesome.

You’ll see the sun setting over the ocean rather than over the city but honestly, it’s an experience you’ll never forget.

Make the effort with a group and grab one of the very generous Mezze Platters as you watch the sun go down.

This restaurant is only open in warmer weather so make sure you check before making the effort of getting out to Burgazada Island.

Grace Restaurant: An Isatabul Rooftop Sunset Institution

You’ll discover a perfect view of the Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque & most of the Istanbul skyline from this eatery!

They open the windows, when it’s warm & you can hear the mixed voices of the surrounding seagulls at the same time as the Azan (call to prayer).

This is a restaurant on the pricey side especially if you order cocktails or spirits but if you’ve got the cash, you may as well splash.

Don’t miss the small staircase at the back reading up to the terrace for the best photo opportunities.

Deraliye Terrace: Our (current) Favourite Sunset Restaurant

This is noted for being our current favorite as we find the service, location and quality of food here excellent. We say current because you never know when you might find another to top the atmosphere and vista that you’ll find here at Deraliye.

You pay for what you get of course but this Roof Top Terrace restaurant is not as expensive as you’d think and you can still find a bargains on the menu in the Lentil Soup, Mezzes and Eggplant dishes.

As an Istanbul Sunset goes, we’ve experienced some of the best ever here at Deraliye.
